The Intra Side Table by British designer Tom Robinson brings a quiet sense of permanence to contemporary furniture design. Cast entirely from weatherproof concrete and infused with subtle pigments in Earthen Red or Olive Green, the table is built to live both indoors and outdoors, adapting to its surroundings while maintaining a strong, sculptural presence. Its bold geometry takes cues from industrial I-beams, balancing visual clarity with purpose. The open core between the two vertical walls creates a functional void, offering space for books, devices or even firewood, and the smooth, hand-polished top invites everyday use.
Each table is cast to order in collaboration with Mass Concrete, one of the UK’s leading concrete specialists. The use of a reinforced concrete composite with recycled aggregates ensures lasting strength and a more responsible material footprint. During the development process, Robinson explored vertical casting techniques that allow for a single, mono-material structure without metal reinforcement. The result is a piece that feels both raw and refined, engineered for longevity rather than quick replacement.
Intra grew from Robinson’s ongoing research into the idea of “Made in the UK” and how local fabrication can support a slower, more intentional approach to production. The table’s design references enduring forms found in Roman columns and industrial structures, translating their efficiency and balance into domestic scale. This connection between architectural logic and everyday use gives Intra its quiet authority.
Tom Robinson Studio has built a reputation for combining research, craft and sustainability in projects that range from furniture and objects to interiors and installations. The London-based practice has received international recognition including the iF Design Award, the Wallpaper* Design Award and nominations from Dezeen. Beyond client work, Robinson develops limited editions in close partnership with UK fabricators, each piece guided by material honesty and long-term value.
The Intra Side Table is available directly through the studio, made in small batches and signed upon completion. More than a piece of furniture, it stands as a statement of durability and thoughtful design; a reminder that true craftsmanship endures.
